Just got a new laptop. Wanted XP but couldn't get it on the type machine I wanted. My daughter, who works for a major computer company, told me 80 percent of their customer complaints are about Vista, not hardware. I'v had Vista a week. Managed to turn off the waring that seemed to pop up every time I wanted to run a program. Still.. .

My assessment is that Vista is the 21st Century version of Windows ME.

Alright I heard you. The clock is ticking. Go HERE to sign up the Save Windows XP petition. The more we sign up the more likely that M$ will have a change of heart and offer - free of charge - boxed XP SP3 to everybody that bought preinstalled Vista (I must be dreaming).

LOL Today's St. Patrick Day I think I will head over to an Irish bar and order Murphy's Irish Stout, Murphy's Irish Amber, Guinness, Beamish, and Harp Lager all in one giant mug.

Why not just override the situation & install XP on your laptop & forget about Vista.

Last time I checked, there are still folks out there running Win9X & AFAIK, the right to run whatever OS you wish on your equipment has not been outlawed.

Progressive initiative is not a compulsory choice in life!

It's my understanding that there aren't XP drivers for some hardware built since Vista was introduced. Talked to one person who tried to put XP on his Vista laptop and could find some drivers he needed.

even if the OEM does not offer windows XP device drivers for new models (like HP), you'll be able to find them at the hardware manufacturer's support page (e.g. Intel, Realtek, ATI, Nvidia, etc.).

i have yet to come accross a piece of hardware used in common desktop PCs or laptops that does not work with XP.

just run SIW or a similar program to identify the components in your computer and search for XP drivers.

Guess at this point I'll wait for SP1 and see if it makes a difference.

Vista isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people proclaim it is.

I understand the driver issues and software issues, but most hardware and software made within the last 3 years will work with vista via driver update or software update.

I understand why people complain about the hardware upgrades to make vista run smooth, but in reality the upgrades to Vista would be right on track considering the 5 year gap between Windows XP and Windiows Vista hardware requirments.

I understand XP outbenchmarks Vista, but Vista SP1 makes a decent amount of changes to shorten the gap. Plus Vista SP1 final runs faster and more stable then Vista Gold.

XP is a rock solid OS now, but it never used to be that way when it first debuted. It took two service packs for XP to become rock solid. For those that don't remember XP too had it's issues especially security when it first debuted not to mention a lot of people complained at first about XP, because it didn't support Dos and many people were still using Dos based programs from Windows 9x at the time.

So give Vista a chance. I used to be that way about Vista too until i really started to use it and imo i think it's better then XP in many areas especially with SP1. I can honestly say the Vista with SP1 is as stable if not more stable then XP SP2.
