I googled it and was told to uninstall usb root hub from device mngr i did this then I was told to click search for new hardware when i did this I was asked to install something i said yes but it didnt work now when I put anything into my usb port nothing happens.
And when I search for drivers it finds none even though usb root hub isnt installed please help.

Don't you have a warranty with HP? If it never worked then make them fix it.

If it did work at one time then, consider system restore or clean install.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

HP says Sorry but...

Your Product is Not Supported for a Vista Upgrade!.

...therefore no Vista drivers from us for this Compaq Presario F557US sold with Windows XP preinstalled.

Vista drivers are listed:

But not for USB as they are included in Vista, seems like a hardware fault not a driver fault....

"now when I put anything into my usb port nothing happens."

If you can't get any USB peripherals to work, the problem may not be the thumb drive.

And it also would help to give us the details of this USB thumb drive.
