Vista not installing drivers

For the past while I have only been able to pair my usb memory sticks to my vista. I googled it and was told to uninstall usb root hub from device mngr i did this then I was told to click search for new hardware when i did this I was asked to install something i said yes but it didnt work now when I put anything into my usb port nothing happens. And when I search for drivers it finds none even though usb root hub isnt installed please help.
