I have windows vista home premium, the problem is that i can not ping my DNS which is the mail server in my company, so i can not receive my e-mails when using Microsoft outlook when clicking send/receive bottom. i can ping the DNS from XP OS, but from vista when pinging, it reply just once then i got msg "request timed out". seems it is vista security problem, i used another vista computer, same problem occured.i also disabled my symantec AV and firewall and still same problem.
any one know the solution????

hi Sabertooth,
i got this error:Task 'my e-mail address here - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
when pinging the DNS there is no replies.
something happen here, i configure to get my IP automatically, then i got replies from DNS for about 20 min.
i think there is some rule or policy that disables to get replies from DNS IP.
by the way, sometimes when i ping the DNS IP, i get just one reply then "Request timed out".

What version of Outlook - 2007?
I dunno if & just how much of a role Symantec is playing as far as your mail issue is concerned. However, if the machine was mine, here's what I'd do:
- Download Norton Removal Tool & completely rid the machine of Symantec. And instead, install an AV utility like Avast which also happens to be FREE.
- Delete & recreate the Outlook email account.
BTW, what firewall are you using - the built-in Windows Firewall or one from a third-party?

hi SaberTooth,
i use outlook 2007 ver.(12.0.6316.5000)
also im using the build-in firewall of windows and windows defender only.i will delete the symantec, and the outlook account and tell u the results.
thank you

Hello again Sabertooth,
i deleted symantec AV, disable firewall, try to ping again,no reply.
the weird thing is that i try to ping from another computer has vista for my friend, also no reply.
could it be a policy from DNS server????

here's the updates:
i select optain IP automatically, when get IP and DNS, all seems the right network configurations, i start ping DNS, no replies, when i open network, i see all computers on LAN, then i got replies from DNS,and as long as i am pinging DNS it seems ok, when i close cmd and stop ping, after 5 min, when try agian ping DNS no replies.i have no more ideas to try.

If you are using servers in the company the problem is that your system is using Home Premium. The Home versions do not have the networking capability to connect to a domain and communicate with servers. You would nee the Vista Business or Ultimate versions to connect.
