Subject: Vista: Map Network Drive ErrorOS: Vista UltimateCPU/Ram: 2 GBModel/Manufacturer: Dell 1210 XPS |
Comment: My Domain is a Windows 2003 Std. Server. I recently got a Dell laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate. I want to map 3 network drives. I try to map the drives, it maps successfully. The very first time on successful mapping it automatically pops up the drives. But, the next time if I have to use it, and I double click the mapped network drive, it gives me 2 different errors for 2 of my mapped drives... 1. That the drive cannot be loaded because of some permission issues and crap (This is bull s---, since XP opens it fine with the same credentials) 2. <DriveLetter>:\ Application not found... I get these 2 crappy errors... Interestingly, one of my mapping out of the 3 works properly! Also, The UNC paths work for the drives, which give me the above error... Anyone who can help? Am I doing something wrong?

Reply: (edit)How are you mapping the drives? Manually? Via a script? Have you tried turning off the firewall in case you've got a problem there? Do you have User Account Control turned on or off? Are you logging in with the user account that can access the network resource, or having to supply alternate credentials? Just because it works on XP doesn't mean it HAS to work on Vista. It's a different OS...

Reply: (edit)I an mapping the drives manually & not via any script. I tried turning the firewall off, that din work. Also, interestingly, my firewall is ON in Windows XP, yet it works. Yes, UAC is not turned off & I did not try turning it off either. I am logging in with the user account that can access the network resource. The error occurs even on a Domain Admin's account. You are correct, just because it works on XP, does not mean it has to work on Vista ;-) Are these OS's not almost in the same architecture? Thanks for the reply!
