Vista loses mouse settings

Specs: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2, 1.5 gb
Every time I shut down and restart Vista, mouse speed settings revert to the default speed.

WHICH mouse are you using?
Optical
USB
Wireless

did it ever work right? If so, did you try a system restore back to when it worked fine?

yes, it worked right, then started this behavior. I found a fix from a web site something like this one. It worked right again for months, then started toi misbehave again. the last time, I did something with regedit. but i don't remember what it was.
