Wanting to know if anyone else has experienced this and see if this is a multi core thing or what?? .. this is the deal. I built a new PC. P5N-E SLI , E6850 processor.. 8800GT Video card and Kingston DDR2 800 MHZ PC6400 RAM.. I am doing multi OS on this PC. And I wanted to install Vista Ultimate on the First Partition of the drive, XP Pro on the second Partition. ..so what happened is this. I put in the Vista Disc in the DVD drive. And booted up. It went through its whole process and this is a full install. NOT an upgrade. But it goes on its merry way and loads all the files and reboots and stuff. BUT.. when it gets to the very end where it is in the “completing installation” section of the install. It just stops. I mean you see little dots moving back and forth on the screen showing it is supposedly doing something . But it never finishes.. EVER.. I have reinstalled it several times .. same thing. It gets all the way to the end and just hangs. Is this a Dual core issue??..

Now before you all ask this stuff let me try and address it. .. I know for a fact this disc works as on my old AMD 2400+ system. I can install it fine. No problems. Its only on this dual core that seems to be an issue. I don’t know how to fix it or what is causing it. I did end up installing XP Pro on the second Partition and that seemed to go fine. Without any major issues.. .. oh and once I go the XP Pro up and running .. I tried using Acronis True Image to back up the XP Pro partition. And when I booted up to the True Image boot Disc. .. and it went through its processes. .. I tried to back up the XP Pro partition to the Logical Drive on same hard drive. And it was going fine. Up until the last minute and 32 seconds and again. It just stops.. it stayed there for like 20 minutes on that same spot. . when I rebooted and tried it again. It finally happened. On the Vista Install.. I let it sit on “completing installation” for about 30 minutes each time and it never gets past that.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys..

I haven't seen it in a while but it might be a faulty partition such as overlapping partitions. Not sure but some people had issues with too many linux installs not allowing ms to run. They had to zero out the partition tables. I can't find that link.

Might try a system diag suite.

Use Vista to re-partition and reset bios to fail safe and try again?

I doubt a multicore issue. I normally would suspect a driver issue but if xp runs usually vista should. Could only be an oddity of the motherboard. We used to have that issue (at big computer co) when a new OS came out. We'd get many fails on last OS's fully working boards. Seems that firmware and some chips won't run. That is the reason for the official MS list.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I run Vista Ultimate on one of my machines with an E6850 Processor.

There weren't any issues with the installation at all, although my mobo is a P35-DS3P. I also have a raid 0 array with the single OS.

when I tried installing Vista. it was the only partition on the drive. so none of the others had even been added yet. I wanted to get vista done. and it just sat there. it was only after it would not load that I added the other partitions. also. just on a whim. since I had read sometimes it takes a long time for it to install. I started the install up last night before I went to bed and let it run all night and this morning. I guess it timed out or something cause it was not done. I didn’t get the completing message. the screen was simply blank and when I rebooted. it went to a black screen with the normal loading bar that moves at the bottom but it did nothing. so I have no idea… and yeah on my other single core system. It installed NP.. and didn’t take that long. So I dunno what is hanging it up.
