FOR EXAMPLE, SERIAL OF WINDOWS XP SP2 SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK WITH EARLIER VERSIONS OF XP. SO I HAVE SERIAL OF VISTA HOME PRE SP1 AND I WANT TO USE IT AFTER INSTALLING VISTA HOME PRE WITH NO SERVICE PACK. DOES ANY VISTA HOME PRE SERIAL WORK WITH ALL ORIGINAL VERSIONS (WITH SP OR NOT) OF VISTA HOME PRE?

Service Packs do not come with licenses; the OS does & it makes little to no difference what key you've got. Again, as long as your key was obtained legally & it is for the same version (Home-to-Home or Pro-to-Pro) & it has not been blacklisted for too many activations, you are fine. In the worst case scenario, you may need activate your installation manually.
