I just got a new dell PC with vista home premium. I have some works database files that we use at work that we tried to port to vista. I can access and update/change the files, but anytime we try and run reports out of the works db it crashes the program.
We can't invest the time to rewrite the DB. It has too many tables and relations between those to be replicated in a newer program such as Access. We also have many years of records contained inside the db.
Doesa anyone have some answers as to what we can do? We needed to upgrade our computers badly, but it seems as if Works 8.5 (which to my understanding is the latest version) is not fully supported by vista.
Thanks for your time.

there are several ms applications that don't go down too well with vista. you're talking about more than one computer. does the problem occur on all machines or just the one you're using?
you can try running works in compatibility mode. to do so, locate the executable (msworks.exe?), right click on it and select properties and proceed, following this instruction:

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Thanks, i will try this on Monday as i am out of town on business. I was actually trying to find out how to do this since XP had this built in as well. But at the time, i was unable to find it through the sleek new GUI.
Please check back and i will post my results. If anyone else has some thoughts please feel free to add them. Thanks!

Ok guys,
I changed the compatabilty and check this out. It worked for several minutes. I was able to run and print the reports as i used to but then after several minutes i was unable to do it again without the crash reoccuring. I'm stumped. Nothing changed between the time that it worked and when it no longer did. I made sure the compatabilty was set for xp SP2 on the main exe (works.exe) and the database exe (worksdb.exe).
I hope people are still looking at this post.

Ok guys, hope this helps someone as i figured out the culprit. The HP printer we were using in our office has faulty vista drivers. So anytime we were trying to preview or print (which would summon the print driver) the program would crash. We simply uninstalled the printer and replaced it with a printer that was vista ready. I think since HP has so many printer models out it will take them more time to get this problem fixed. Unfortunately we have payroll to run :)
