Hi, I upgraded to Vista Home Premium from XP when it became available through Dell and all has been fine for a long time. But recently 2 weeks or so my computer just began freezing up. The mouse and keyboard become useless. I have left it alone for 10 mins but it does not free up so I have to manually close my computer down. I have no warning messages what so ever. I have been onto Dell's web site and installed the updates necessary but still no joy. My windows updates are always up-to-date and my scans are weekly and show no problems. Also, before it freezes I have noticed it's crunching away but the task manager doesnt show anything using much. I'm no expert thats why I need your help please.

Also if that doesn't work try going to dell website and updating your drivers.

Hi, Thanks for your input. I had come across the first suggestion before but thought I might try other things first. I have already been to dell and done the updates to no avail. Its funny everyone who has had this problem is reporting it only hanging for about 30 seconds mine doesnt come back. Another thing I thought of after I posted was that I am also having trouble with Word, when I am creating posters etc. my page braking up and only part is visible but if I printed it off it would be perfect. Also Adobe Premiere Elements 3 seems very sluggish too. Both seem to take a long time to catch up. When I thought my computer spec was good enough. So I wonder if there is something else not right with it.

I suggest you check if your PSU has enough power for the hardware in your system. It may be shown on the back of the PSU or you may have to open the cover and see if its marked on the side.
To calculate power requirments go Antec and fill in what hardware you have and select calculate.

Hi, I have only one drive unlike the one that is reported in the fix. However, I opened up the case and did find one orange cable from the drive leading to the motherboard. Excuse my ignorance but I am a novice and want to be sure. On the motherboard where the orange cable connects is another connector to the left of it. Can you confirm that that is the one I have to move please?

Hi, I have run my chkdsk but there are no bad sectors. But still my computer freezes and I have to manually close it down. It has never recovered from a freeze.

Hi, just thought I would let you know what I have done to try to combat my computer freezing. I read on another forum how hungry AERO was and that if I changed it to be Windows Vista Basic it would not be using so much. So I did that and also stopped certain programmes from loading on startup and have freed up resources. So far touch wood my computer has not frozen on the internet. I am going to increase my memory and change my graphics card too. Not only is Vista hungry but Adobe Premiere is too which was causing Adobe not to respond properly.
