I have a problem with CPU usage in Vista on my thinkpad(x41).
Every time vista started(completely), after about 1~2 minutes, CPU usage goes nearly 100% and starts to access the disk insanely. Then another after about 15 minutes or so, windows becomes stable. I have tried dig into "svchost", "searchIndex" kind of processes, but no luck. There is no virus or spyware kinds.I also have another thinkpad(T41), which had exactly the same problem. What I ended up was the re-installing the vista.
Has anyone had the same issue with vista?
I am really getting tired of Vista, but it would be stupid to pay for another windows xp(how many xp licences do I have on another pcs?).

I had the same issues with insane disk activities shortly after start up (vista 64)
It turns out to be mostly indexing... turn off as much of the indexing as you can. That will help a fair bit.

That "insane disk activity" is Vista intentionally loading as much stuff as possible into your RAM, so that your system will be nice and speedy later on. Forgot the specific name of that feature.

So we have to wait 10 min to use the PC?
Sounds ridiculous.
This does not happen with the thinkpad(T41) I re-installed vista.
