Comment:

Of the many things I hate about Windows Vista, the most annoying thing has to be the networking. Call me stupid or what not but I've tried about everything I could do and nothing has prevailed. My workgroup names are the same, the computers are on a wired connection (Linksys BEFSR41), there are 3 XP computers and 1 Vista computer. 2 of the XP computers being my families and the last XP Computer being mine. On that XP computer when you go to the network places, it usually shows all the files being shared, it does... except for the Vista computer. I go to the computers with in the network and the Vista computer does show there, I click it and I'm prompted for a username and password, I enter the username of the computer running on Vista and the password, what do ya know... it works and I can view it, but only through that method. At least I got some networking going, now I try to get to my XP computer through the Vista computer, I go to the place to view computers in the same workgroup, my XP computer is shown there, I click it hoping it would let me through or at least prompt me to enter Username and Password, but I don't get that, instead I get the annoying message telling me I do not have access to this blah blah blah please contact system administrator type of deal, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Now I try to go on the other two XP computers and it works fine, everything works fine except when I try to network the Vista to MY XP computer, everytime I try it gives me that dam access permission mumbo jumble. If you want to know, I have installed the LLTD already and it still has not worked. Please help me out and tell me how stupid I am about this and how easy it is I can fix it.
P.S. If I seem rude then I am sorry, I love this community and it has helped me a good bunch. You guys have always been solving my problems and been showing me how simple it is to solve these things. I have forumed this topic reading thread after thread before I wrote one myself. I'm sorry for not being able to help myself so I ask for your help. I give you my thanks ahead of time, for the people are even willing to read this long message, well Thank you and hopefully we'll solve this.

in the properties of the network connection
or' manage network connections'
open advanced, add the option 'everyone' to the users list. i did, and all my vista/xp's hug and kiss each other on a daily basis.
make sure your vista in set to 'private network' for safty reasons.
one of my vista's was set to public network, and, i got the dreaded smurf attack.
google explains how that destroys the network and the router settings.
i had never heard of it!
