Comment: Hi. I have taken my PC into a repair shop and they have formatted my drive completly. The I have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on DVD. I don't think its bootable. Im not sure... The only bootable OS I have is Win2K and in the past I have always had to install 2K, XP then Vista. I am just so fed up of it now that I need to find a way to install my copy of Vista from scratch. Can anybody help? Many Thanks, Jophster

Reply: (edit)..."I need to find a way to install my copy of Vista from scratch..." here's one way: take it back to the repair shop and pay the extra $5 to have Vista installed. ... then give him a $25 tip. (... sorry I got brain freeze)

Reply: (edit)on first boot, press F12 to choose which device to boot from. Is you CD reader DVD/CD ? I have never seen a version of windows that is not bootable since windows 95. Perhaps they gave you an ISO image CD.

Reply: (edit)If you cannot boot to your Vista DVD for whatever reason, then you can ask the repair shop, or a friend, to install Vista Ultimate on your PC without a product key and, when Vista is up and running, you enter your product key to activate Vista. I think you know Vista, unlike other editions of Windows, can be installed without a product key and used for a month for trial purposes. You can extend this trial period to four months. Reply: (edit)If you want to extend the four month trial period over and over again indefinitely, don't ever upgrade Vista to SP1. Vista SP1 closed this M$'s embarrasing hole. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)In reply to #8, I tried but could not go past beyond the four month grace period. Not that I needed to, but just out of curiosity. Regards suatcini
