Mine does the same thing. I can move files from my Vista system to the shared folders of any of my other systems (all XP) with no problem as long as I do it from the Vista system.

If I try to access the Vista system's shared folder, I am asked for a login and password which I have never set up. I have even attempted to set one up in vista, but haven't found where to do this yet :)

So Buffy, let us know what you do to solve this, meanwhile I'll keep looking.

Needalilhelp...did you ever enter a "username" to log into your computer? I did the password for a while when i was new to XP, but i never heard of a user name?!?!?!

Musky....i'm still looking...the user name part seems to be the problem, but if i ever find something....now Vista doesn't see XP anymore?!?!?!

The user name on my computer was by defualt Compaq_owner never entered one. But the user name is the name next to the picture and right above where you entered the password. So just loggoff and see what the name is.

I have tried all suggestions and still cannot access the Vista system. I can see it on my network and I can access all other computers on the network from the Vista machine, but it still asks for a login and password to connect to Vista.

I have set no login or password, I tried the user account name "Demo" and nothing. From the XP machines I get the error:

"You might not have permission to access "Demo" or "Blank passwords may not be allowed".

When I log off the Vista machine, it only shows one user, the main one "Demo:.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks for all the input!

I found it!

The top choice was chosen by default. I just checked the next one down "Anyone who can connect to my network"

It wasn't that easy to find, it's buried in network properties, which are also not as readily available as in XP.
