Comment: So I know that I need a 64 bit version of windows to get the 4 gigs, but since it shows up on my machine as 3 gigs, I was wondering what happens with that extra 1 gig. Does it get used but not reported; is it allocated for video card usage?

Reply: (edit)SP1 is said to show all 4 GB in Computer Properties window but the same restrictions will apply; namely, noone will be able to use 4 GB due to x86 structure. Regards SuatCINI

Reply: (edit)and that will confuse a lot of people into think it can use all 4gb of ram when it won't. This is why MS should put an * next to reading the 4GB of ram.

Reply: (edit)All my 4gigs shows up as 4096MB, my assumption is you have to enable an option in BIOS. There's a Memory mapping feature in the BIOS (asus motherboard as least) you have to enable that in order to read all your memory.
