Running Vista Home Premium, trying to use Treo 680 (which syncs just fine with an XP laptop). Installed Palm desktop on Vista machine, plugged in the Treo, and ran a hotsync, successfully, it appeared. I opened Palm desktop, and the info was not there. Browsing to the Palm folder in Program Files, I could see a folder containing the files I just synced over, but desktop wouldn't find them.
Thinking something had gone awry in the install, I unplugged the Treo, uninstalled the Palm desktop program, and deleted the Palm folder from Program Files. Upon reinstalling the software and plugging the Treo back in, the Treo reported not being able to hotsync.
I then pulled up the device manager, and where before it said Palm Treo, it now said "unknown Device", and Vista will not recognize it at all. It says no driver is found or can be loaded to run it.
The specific message for the now unknown device is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) The system cannot find the file specified. To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
I click the button, and Vista just searches over and over for a driver file, both on the computer and online, and finds nothing. Scouring the Palm software CD revealed nothing that might be a driver for the Treo, and Windows could not locate a driver online.
By all appearances, the driver for the Treo is now missing from Windows. I am unable to tell if it should be on the CD, or maybe downloadable from Palm, or if it is part of Vista's included driver support. Any assistance is greatly appreciated on where to turn to get this thing recognized again. (And secondarily, resolving the issue of seeing/using the hotsynced data.
Thanks,
Bob

Might work. I'll give it a try.
I have to admit, I should have considered this first. I apparently got too deep into the forest to see the trees. Thanks.
