Help! How can I get m new Vista Home basic notebook to work in 256 colour. I need it for use with C-Maps for marine navigation DESPERATELY! Thank you!

You would need a video driver that supported that low of a resolution. Go into display properties and advanced. Click on "list all modes" and see if a 256 color is on the list.

Right-click on the application in question. In its properties, there should be a Compatibility tab. In there is a checkbox for 256 color.
