Vista AC'97 Driver Issues

My sound worked perfect using XP Pro, but now that I have installed a fresh install of Vista Ultimate 32 bit the sound no longer works. The Vista driver shows everything is working fine, but no sound comes out. I have tried various AC'97 Vista drivers and nothing has worked so far. Even Gateway tech support had no options for me. Anyone else with the same laptop? Gateway M520S. Or fixed a similar this problem in another Gateway model?
