Comment: hi , i purchased a vista ultimate upgrade dvd , now on the case it says 32- and 64 bit , and also says that on installation can choose between 32 and 64 bit , but on the dvd it says this disc contains 64-bit software only , why say on the cover 32 and 64 and yet its only 64. dave

Reply: (edit)As far as I was led to understand, you can't "cross" upgrade. In other words if your original system is 32 bit then you can only "upgrade" to vista 32... like wise with the 64 bit. I bought the FULL RETAIL version of 64 ultimate and it came with both the 32 and 64 bit disks (2 separate disks) and I bought the full deal because I was told that you could not pay the upgrade price if you are switching from 32 to 64 system. Given all of this, I would question the purchase if it DID come with both disks.

Reply: (edit)Let's set the record straight for BOTH retail & OEM Windows Vista: Vista Ultimate (full and upgrade) is the only Vista edition shipped with two discs - one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit. All other editions are sold as 32-bit only. If you want the 64-bit version of any Vista edition other than Vista Ultimate, you can get it directly from M$ through THIS LINK. In case you wonder what's behind M$ holding back the 64-bit editions of Window Vista from the retail & OEM channels, read ... Vista users get the 64-bit blues mrmacca, Having said the above, I think you should contact Amazon as to why you only received one DVD. Amazon's Windows Vista FAQ stated For Vista Ultimate, both the 32-bit DVD-ROM and 64-bit DVD-ROM are included. i_Xp/VistaUser
