Virtual PC Error

March 15, 2009 at 09:05:33
Specs: Windows Vista, Pentium Dual Core 1.73 GHz/3 GB RAM
I'm trying to run Windows 95 in Virtual PC 2004, and I "insert" the install floppy, I hit enter to begin installation, then it comes up with an error "while formatting the primary partition". Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

What error? Is the virtual hard drive the correct size? Are you sure you are formatting the virtual hard drive and not the floppy or a non-existent drive?

i set up my win95 vm by booting from a dos6 virtual floppy and running fdisk first (you have to partition, format your virtual disks just like real ones)
also- do you have Hardware Virtualization disabled in your vpc setting? Windows 95 wont boot with it enabled - at least on my system anyway.

"and I "insert" the install floppy, I hit enter to begin installation"

This doesn't make sense!

You follow the wizard to make a virtual machine and a virtual hard drive.

You boot (start) the virtual machine.

I use mouse to pull down VPC menu for boot device. Then you select the floppy or floppy image to boot from.

You can if you really want, go into the virtual machines bios and select boot device but I never do.

There is no enter to begin that I know of.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
