I recently installed an Asus M3n78-VM mobo and all was well. I had no problems with the audio and getting surround sound. Today I tried recording from a keyboard via the line in but I could get no sound from the speakers even though I could see input levels. So I installed the Via HD audio drivers and now it will not recognise the speakers (no sound, will not accept 5.1 sound). If I uninstall the drivers I get 5.1 with a line in but cannot hear what I am playing through the speakers. My device manager shows two audio devices; Via HD and HD audio device (I think this is because the BIOS allows for external and internal codecs). I disabled each in Bios as well as uninstalling each in device manager but so far no luck.
Also, Windows update keeps prompting me to install Nvidia HD audio drivers.

I think I solved it guys. Not sure exactly what did it but I uninstalled both devices, restarted and quickly installed the drivers from the original Mobo DVD before windows managed to get its own drivers in. Now everything is as before.
Oh, and I uninstalled the Nvidia audio drivers it had installed.
