i have a fairly new laptop, but it doesn't have an s-video output. i've tried to use the vga port and a vga to s-video wire to try to get it to hook up to my tv, but all that comes up is a snowy image. is there a setting i have to change, software that i need, or is this even possible on my computer? if it matters, it has an nvidia 8200g m card.

You might have to play with the resolution/refresh rate/color depth to get it to show up correctly. Depending on the TV and graphics card, it can be quite the "guess and check" process.
