Comment:

I have a dell inspiron 9400 laptop. The lcd cracked about a year ago forcing me to plug a monitor to the vga port. A year later the vga port doesn't want to work. When I plug any monitor the light flashes orange and green, on and off. Is it dead?

The VGA port on the laptop might have worked itself loose from the wear & tear associated with prolonged connection & disconnection. If you are DIY oriented, you might want to crack the case open to see if that is the issue. Or take it in to a repair shop. Ultimately, you may be looking at new notebook - all things considered.
