Vertical line on screen

A vertical line has inexplicably appeared on my screen. I've shut down and rebooted and it's still there. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Does it appear when windows loads or when the PC is booting?

It appears as soon as the computer begins to boot up and basically is on the screen whatever program I'm in, including games etc. From what I've gleaned from surfing the net I've a feeling it's a wear and tear issue and I'm stuck with it.

Yeah its most likely the video card starting to die.
