Subject: uuuh ooooh.. Vista activation.
OS: Vista Home Basic
CPU/Ram: Sempron 2600+ / 1Gb
Model/Manufacturer: Custom
Comment:

When I installed Vista I activated it as soon as I installed it, the problem is I fiddled around with my CPU's clock speeds and now Vista wants me to activate it again or it will stop working in 2 days... CRAP.

I tried activating it again online but it says my product key is already in use. Thats because I already activated it!! What should I do now? I would like to do this in a LEGAL way since I actually bought it legally.

Any help?

Call Microsoft tech support and explain the situation, they will provide you with the correct information to activate your product again.

CPU Overclocking is tantamount to major hardware change. Quoted from Vista EULA:

Some changes to your computer components or the software may require you to reactivate the software. The software will remind you to activate it until you do.

Your only recourse may be per Beginner1 suggestion.

Matt,

JOOC - How much did you pay for that Home Basic & why in the heck did you even have to go with that version?

You know running XP with a Vista theme would almost have been a better option for you.

You're messing with the wrong guy

The reason I bought Vista Home Basic was because it was cheaper than XP Pro and only $10 more than XP Home. I actually went out to buy XP Pro but it was over $200(Australian), XP Home was $129 and Vista Home Basic was $140. It had better features than XP Home and was much closer to my budget.

To be honest I don't really care about the theme, the only reason I bought windows was because I felt it was time to get "ahem" 'a more legit copy' of windows.

I'll give MS a call then. Thanks

UUUGH, MS E-mail support says my PID Number is invalid and the MS phone lines are closed. AND for some reason whenever my computer tries to open the help and support thingo I get an error that says:

"Internet Explorer cannot download /from Help.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site.
The Requested site is unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Its annoying when its easer and less stressful to run an illegal version of an O/S than it is when you have a legit version.
GRRR Microsoft.

"MS phone lines are closed"

Closed for what - college spring break?

For Australia, try these numbers 02 9870 2131 or 1800 642 008.

90% of M$ employment population consists of 90% college-age kids. Isn't it one of the "unpublished" fringe benefits why they went to work for M$?

Hi
Mattie
are you using PC Tools Spyware Doctor?
theres a few cases of this doing strange things to vista installs after 3 days and error code 0xC004D401 result.
fiddling with bios shouldnt do anything theres plenty of OC'rs who 've already done that to no ill effect.
keep on @ M$ keeps em busy.

Nope, only AVG and Ccleaner.
YAY, thanks Sabertooth. I called the 1800 number and got it going again.

If it wasn't the over clock that did it what was it? I'm thinking it could be that I did a registry clean with Ccleaner. But thats all I can think of.
Thanks.
