Hello To All:

Having lost CDROM access to both CD and DVD drives twice in one week, I decided to do a full search for a remedy to this problem.
Following a post by another subscriber, I decided to look further still.
I came upon a solution in the Windows Help and Support page.

There is an automatic solution to the UPPERFILTER/LOWERFILTER fix
This is a 123KB application named “GUIDED HELP”as listed on the Webpage, but when downloaded, its name is “GUIDE-314060.EXE.

Download this file to your desktop and double-click it. Immediately, it will take care of the registry by deleting the annoying errors and you must reboot to lock the changes. Upon entering Windows, go directly to Device Manager and all the CDROM drives will be listed and ready to go.
You do not have to go into the registry and fumble around for these keys!!
GUIDE-314060.EXE WILL DO IT FOR YOU!!
Here is the link:

GUIDED HELP TO DEL UPPERFILTERS

I hope this tip will help anyone who is caught in this helpless position.

Regards,
Purdue112

Great info Purdue thanks for sharing.

What really frosts my cookies is that this hase been a known issue in XP for the last 4 years and Microsoft hasn't fixed it in Vista.
