Subject: USB Conflict. Please helpOS: Win VistaCPU/Ram: Core2 Duo/2GB |
Comment: Hi. I've done a lot of research but to no avail. Could someone please help me out? My situation: Bose Companion 5 hooked up via USB. Works fine alone. When I plug in Guitar Hero controller (also via USB), the sound gets distorted and stays like that until reboot. I figure the cause of this problem is the resource conflict between the USB sound card (in Bose Companion) and the Guitar Hero Controller. I think they both go to the Northbridge of the motherboard, right? The way to solve this problem, i think, would be to reallocate the resources so these 2 USB devices don't step on each other. How do I do this in Vista, assuming my reasoning is correct? If i'm wrong, what do you think is causing my problem? Thanks for all the help! Peter

Reply: (edit)I am sorry I do not have the faintest idea of what those things are that you plug into the usb ports. Therefore, below will be some vague ideas for you. Do the things have their own power supplies ? How much data transfer do the things do per second ? I am afraid you do not have much chance to play with the IRQ assignments. Windows Vista does it for you. Besides you do not need to assign them. Windows Vista does a better job of assigning the IRQs. You should check your M/B manual to see if you can do some playing with the IRQs right from the source. Hope the above helps. Regards suatcini
