I am wondering if I can upgrade to vista home basic? My graphics card is a Radeon Mobility 16mb. Will I be able to run Windows vista home basic or do I have to get a new computer, I really love my Dell Inspiron 4100.

Looking at the specs on the web, better to buy a new one if you want to install Vista.

too low performance to handle it.

An even better idea would be to stick with WinXP as long as possible & let the other chumps out there act as "beta testers" for Vista. Once most the bugs are worked out & new drivers & software are developed that actually work Vista, THEN buy a new PC & hop on the Vista bandwagon.

My advice basically NO!..........when it comes to Vista Home Basic. This is something I consider insidious even if M$ pitched it free to consumers, let alone charging almost $100 (OEM) for it.

My advice to anyone contemplating the purchase of Vista Home Basic is to discard that thought completely & for about $25 more pick up Vista Home Premium in its place. And if the extra $25 is hard to come up with or a hardware that is unable to support Aero Glass & Flip 3D is responsible for this choice - they can even do better & save a lot more by not wasting that $100 on Home Basic & just stay with Windows XP.
