After upgrade from XP to Vista, I have notice that there are many folders which have strange names for folder name on my C:\. for example: 3806d0ee22a5b0332d or similar. There are hundreds of these folders on the C:\. I would like to reclaim my computer hdd but I would like to know if it is alright for me to delete these folders from the C:\ without damaging the laptop current OS (Vista Home Prem.)

In my clean install of Vista Home Premium, I have three folders in C:\ drive:
USERS PROGRAM FILES WINDOWS
After installing ATI drivers for my graphics adapter, another folder named ATI appeared.
This is true when "Do not show hidden files and folders" option is ticked.
Please be advised.

Normally when you upgrade to Vista, the installation wizard moves the previous OS & temp & TIF folders and everything else to a new folder called Windows.old.
I guess that if the temp folder location is not specified in the windows environment variables, the wizard has no place to dump the crazy looking folders except in the root directory of the HD. Hence this explain why there are hundreds of these folders on C:\ drive.
