Ok in this thread a while ago:
http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/152579.html

I almost came to solving it, someone recommended that I should go into C:\ and delete the files bootmgr and the folder Boot. (hidden system files)

Will this get rid of the Vista boot menu? This is the menu that comes up asking if you want to boot into 'Earlier' version of windows, or just into windows. Earlier = XP, just windows = Vista.

All I need to know is if this will get rid of that menu, thus going to the original XP menu (which I still get if i select earlier/XP from the first vista boot menu) and so I CAN DELETE THE VISTA PARTITION AND BE GONE OF THIS DEMON FOREVER.

Thanks in advance!

Deleting the directories will not automatically get rid of Vista's boot menu, that is where VistaBootPRO comes in.

no wait, its bootloader > uninstall..

will this then just bring up the XP bootmenu?

That should obliterate Vista's boot menu altogether leaving you with XP's boot.ini based menu.

You don't have to delete the Vista partition, all you need to delet are the Windows (Vista) directory & a couple other applicable Vista files like the "Boot" folder & "bootmgr" file (look at my response in the link you had referenced earlier).

I'm not sure why the VistaBootPro did not work for you but you deleting the files & folder above is a manual way of getting the same thing accomplished.

0. Go into folder options

1. Enable "hidden files and folder" & "protected operating system files". (Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system (Recommended)" box & apply.)

2. Look in your C: drive for "Boot" folder & "bootmgr" file.

3. Delete both the file & folder above to get rid of the Vista menu.

Goodluck.

Thanks.

I'm currently at work, I'll try it out when I get home, and I'll let you know if this does it. If so, this should prove helpful to other people in the (sort of) situation as myself.

Sure, thanks for the help. I was getting really stressed with it. Glad to be gone of it.

I recommend to anyone who isn't a coder/developer and wants to use Vista in order to adapt their software to it (or etc), don't download and install Vista. There's no point to it.

Go WindowBlinds or StyleXP, make XP look like Vista if that's what all you want with Vista.

It would be rather odd for anyone to rely on Vista (beta 2 & up) as the sole or prefered productivity OS on their machine knowing fully well that it is yet to attain the GOLD status.

I am not sure what problems you had with it, or if you even tried the "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" before deploying the OS - you *may* have saved yourself the grief afterwards. Just like you did, I have been dual booting Vista and XP Pro for some time and with minimal issues but I do not run the OS as my primary interface.

Like many other people, I just wanted to get Vista to check it out, 'cause it has some nice new GUI abilities, etc.

I just didn't feel like using it anymore, and then I realized there wasn't a 'Uninstall me' button.

It took me so long to get it off because I've been careful about what I should do in order to get it off, I've done too many stupid things not thinking properly with my computer and really regretting it afterwards.

Other people having the same issue, to know how to get your old boot menu back and removely vista safely you can follow these instructions. You dont need VistaBootPRO for it..

@ vardhak

FYI! There has been comments from some folks that tried the "fixntfs -xp" and failed to accomplish the bootloader removal, I don't think it works with 100% of the builds.
