My son was given a Microsoft Office 2003 DVD from a friend who has recently purchased Office 2007. He attempted to install it on his new computer (Windows Vista Home Premium, as above) and now every few seconds has a small prompt coming up saying Windows Installer is trying to install Front Page 2003. A couple of local experts (???!!!) have tried to remove the programme but it defies all attempts, either from the Control Panel or by using the facility in CCleaner. On switch-on at the moment, a pop-up says: Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key. Unknown/Office compatible1/CLSID. Verify that you have permission to access the registry.
I think he/we are sick of the whole thing and would just like to remove it altogether. Can any of you kind folk tell us how to achieve this? He is the sole user/administrator of his machine.
Grateful thanks for reading this.

Thank-you very much indeed for the link, "per". I appreciate your help and hope I might be able to return the favour one day.
With kind regards and best wishes from the Third World (aka the UK!)

Personally, I would recommend using the installtion CD to uninstall it. If CC Cleaner has already done it's damage then reinstall Office and then uninstall it using the CD again as that is the proper procedure for MS Office Products.

Bryan

Thank you Bryco for your advice. I will try both the above and get back to you. I have a feeling we tried to re-run the Office 2003 suite and it wouldn't oblige! It now seems that Office 2003 and Vista was not a good idea! Just in case any reader was wondering, the disk used for installation was a genuine Microsoft one with all the accompanying paraphernalia!
Thanks to everyone
Peter P

I've installed Office 2003 on Vista (& in the UK!) - it is fine although it does get confused during setup unless you are running it as an administrator.

Thanks to all who took the trouble to offer help. Ultimately, the KB290301 link worked -although it was difficult to start because of the continuing pop-up.
This is a really excellent site that has got me (and members of my family) out of heaps of trouble. Thanks again to everyone who contributes to its continuing success.
