Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61, with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1. Whenever I start the computer and then insert the Ethernet Cable of an ADSL Modem to connect to the internet, it shows a "local only" connection and an unidentified public connection. Although The computer obtains a dynamic IP Address from the ADSL modem running a DHCP Server.

While when I Start the computer with the ethernet cable attached to it, the computer has no problems connecting to the internet.

I have searched a lot about this problem, but could not find any solution.

a help would be appriciated.

regards
Akshay

It sounds like your wireless NIC is enabled at the same time. Disable it if you aren't using it. BTW, may I ask why you boot the PC with the cat5 disconnected in the first place?

I have disabled the wireles NIC. It just happens that sometimes I boot the PC and forget to connect the CAT5 before hand.

I don't really think there is anything else you can do to change that. Using a static IP address might work. That way the NIC won't look for an IP. I don't use DHCP for other reasons.

The computer will establish the network connection while booting up.

As you described...it is working correctly.
