Unable to connect to the internet

Specs: Windows Vista
My partner has a Dell laptop, with XP and uses Mozilla Firefox and Linksys wireless router to connect to the internet. For some reason he cannot connect. I have checked under the File Menu, top left to see if the Work Offline option is ticked, but it is not. Any ideas?

go to the command prompt off the accessories menu. right mouse click on this and select run as administrator.

type ipconfig /all and post the results here for review\
can you successfully ping the gateway ip?
