My old XP Pro computer crashed (corrupt vgaoem.fon file)and I couldn't find a XP disc to borrow to extract the file. Used the crashed computer excuse to justify buying a new system with Vista. One option on new computer is to transfer files and settings from an old computer to the new one. can i do that with the old computer in its crashed state, or do i have to fix it first? thanks for helping...

Vista builtin transfer files and settings isn't an intelligent or very brilliant self-thinking being - you need to fix the crashed one first for it to work successfully.

You actually can use the Vista DVD if your system supports booting to DVD's to access the data. Otherwise you'd need some other type of live cd (usb) to access the data or you would need to put the drive in a system that has a working OS.

I think you can use the XP cd if you change some path.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
