Perhaps the computer can only take 1GB of RAM at any one given time. And given your processor type, thats a likely answer. The machine is expandable to 4GB (DDR2 533MHz) of memory. But the notebook seems to be real picky with the particular memory it accepts. There are suggestions of a BIOS upgrade on Toshiba's help forum, but there is not a clear statement about it helping to resolve the problem - according to some folks with the memory upgrade issue.
