Perhaps the computer can only take 1GB of RAM at any one given time. And given your processor type, thats a likely answer.

Im too lazy to Google 'Toshiba L30' but you might as well and see if it has a max of 1GB RAM total.

Medion MIM 2080
Toshiba T2130CT
Macintosh Performa 450

All working wonderfully.

Thanks, but the Crucial site says it can take 2gb, I`ve spent ages searching the net for an answer.

The machine is expandable to 4GB (DDR2 533MHz) of memory. But the notebook seems to be real picky with the particular memory it accepts. There are suggestions of a BIOS upgrade on Toshiba's help forum, but there is not a clear statement about it helping to resolve the problem - according to some folks with the memory upgrade issue.

What type of memory did you get?

Windows Live One Care will not help unless it's being reported correctly in the BIOS but not in Windows.
