torrent file, srt, how do I open srt?

Specs: windows home premium
I just got a documentary that is avi in format but, has an srt file with it. What does srt mean and how do I by-pass this file as the small pop-up window says, "file is asking to be open in an unusaual way" this is time and time again with that dreaded srt file. I am NOT very computer literate.

Here's the info on an srt file:
http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/srt

It is a mistake often made that all files should "Open"- it is often better to save files somewhere. If there are two files then presumably it is really one compressed file. Extract just the avi file somewhere onto the hard disk, then try double clicking the avi file. With luck this will allow you to view the documentary (without subtitle information).

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Wonder if anyone ever got a virus from a torrent???????

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

jefro, that is a good question! Yes, I have wondered but, I try to go to "reputable" torrent sites and use only those already checked-out by someone before me. I try to find screen names that are trusted and there are sites that assure you the torrent chosen is safe. Still, I know this is the web and there are risks in almost everything you do. Thanks for the question you asked because sometimes it is easy to forget to "beware" of those types of possibilities. Also, I must mention, most torrents I am interested in are the documentaries concerning the near future of this planet, Marijuana docs., and a few other interests that I have.

I have a neighbor that has smoked dope his entire life. I know that is his choice to make but seeing him in such a poor psychological state is saddening to me. His emotional state is almost of a 15 year old. He has wasted his life in my opinion. I hope you download a video like his life. Consider moderation in all things please.

Jefro, I have to thank you first before anything else for caring about my choice's of documentaries. I know what you mean concerning the issue of Marijuana and it's use and potential mis-use. I also know quite a few people that are stoned 24/7. It is a sad thing to see, especially when it is a friend or loved one that cannot or will not stop. You know I have to be careful with what I say but, I am not one of those people. I am considered a "light-weight". I never do it in the morning or even daylight for that matter. I have to take care of my Father who had a stroke 10 yrs. ago. I also help my Mother run a family owned business and have to be at my best, mentally and emotionally. Why do it at all then? Because I am 53, a chronic-pain patient and have other issues where this plant does indeed help. All I know, is that I need help sleeping, eating and help slowing down (rest). This is where or should I say why, I use. Again, thank you for your concern.

Very interesting but did you manage to open the avi file the way I suggested?
