On a serious note VISTA is in fact built on a 25year old O/S, unfortunately there is little left of what IBM originally used as a base.
Therefore it requires a complete re-write, but it is cheaper to add extra layers and let us users put up with the slowness.
eComstation it's cousin is a better O/S but IBM never had the insight to challenge the Desktop O/S arena. MARKETING!.......
