so i deleted the partition of C:\ drive. When i try to install windows vista again on C:\ it message "Windows cannot identify specifiec volume label ...... "
So please help to resolve this problem.Regards,

"...so i deleted the partition of C:\ drive"
... how did you "zap" the partition?
... NTLDR is a XP error
... is your DELL 1420 inspiron "vista home basic" recovery partition still intact?
... are there any key prompts as you start up b4 "NTLDR is missing"
... can you remember having other drives on laptop apart from the cdrom?
TRY this:
... as laptop boots-up tap F8 key... select "safe mode command prompt"
... then type bcdedit /enum [press ENTER]
... post the contents here
Grrrr
wat do I know?
... got brain freeze

If you deleted the partition, you also deleted the filesystem. The volume label is part of the filesystem. You'll need to recreate the partition and format it. This can be done using the Windows Vista DVD. When you get to the place where it asks you where to install Windows, select your drive and click "Drive options (Advanced)." Some selections will appear on that window. Click New, then Apply (unless you want more than 1 partition). After that, click Format and click OK on the confirmation box that appears.

Hi All,
Thanks for responses.
I resolved the problem by re-installing vista again.
There was one more partition of 2Gb in C:\ used for MEDIADIRECT so i deleted and formated that partition then formated C:\, Re-installed Windows Vista on C:
Now it is working fine.
