1. Click "Start", then click "Computer".
2. Click "Organize", then click "Folder and Search Options".
3. On the "General" tab, look for "Click items as follows".
4. Make sure the "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" radio button is selected, then click "Apply", then click "OK".

Many thanks for the reply, have tried that but no luck.

Someone has suggested a problem with the left click button which might need cleaning.

That is possible. Have you tried a different mouse? If a different one works, then the problem is the mouse that you are using.
