I have this problem.
With an Acer aspire 5720 series
model NO: ICL 50
MFG Date: 0709
Vista Home Premium
This laptop worked fine until very recently when suddenly it started turning off without reason. Firstly, it got turned off some time after having booted windows vista.
Now, quite often, it gets turned off even before letting the windows to be loaded.
For example: after clicking on the computer power button, you can see the screen which says "press F2 for setup" and "ACER" in big letters. After that the screen shows nothing but black besides a small cursor blinking at the top left of the screen. Then the computer gets stuck at that screen without finishing to boot windows vista. This black screen with the blinking cursor was normal before, but just for 2 seconds or so. Instead of that, now this black screen stays there forever.
There are still sometimes when a few seconds or 1 or 2 minutes after booting windows, the computer gets turned off.
I have checked that the charger is working, I know this because the green light which indicates that the battery is being charged, is on.
Therefore, I do not think the problem has to do with the power jack in the laptop.
The only reason I might think off would be that the soldered joint used to give power to the laptop's internal fan might not have the power and then, the laptop's fan would not be working. Then the comptuer would turn off right after getting to hot.
Still, that does not explain the behaviour experienced some times when the black screen with the cursor stays on the computer forever without turning off the computer.
Any other ideas before opening the laptop's case to check whether the fan is working or not?
Thanks in advance
