A while back I asked about increasing the System Restore size in order to get more restore points to an earlier date. http://www.computing.net/windowsvis...

After researching I think I will try to another method. Since Restore takes so much more space in Vista I don't want to increase it. But I also found that by default Vista creates a scheduled Restore point every 24 hours unless another restore point was made during that period.

I've found one program and a registry edit that purports to change the scheduled restore point. The regedit may or may not need a hexadecimal change. A little beyond me for now. I will supply it if anyone cares to research it for me.

It also appears that the scheduled restore point in Vista can be accessed via the Task Scheduler . So if this works I've changed it from once every 24 hours to once every 48 hours. This way I can eliminate redundant restore points but still go back farther. And retain some automatic restore points.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Task Scheduler>

Click the arrow, > next to to Task Scheduler Library. Do the same for Microsoft. Do the same for Windows. Click on the System Restore Folder on the left.

On the right click Properties. Click on the Triggers tab. Click Edit. Change “daily”-recur every 1 day to 2 days. Click OK. Click OK. Close Task Scheduler.

If this works right it should allow a few older restore points unless I keep making changes every day.

Anyone want to help me check this out? If it works this might be a good tutorial.

Thanks everyone;
RandyL

I'd seen that method not very long ago too, but it was of very little or no use to me since I have System Restore turned off on the Vista machine .... sorry!

I'd say you go for it, you have nothing to worry about.

Hi Sabertooth;
I did change it but i haven't got a chance to see if it works yet. I keep making changes that causes Vista to make other restore points.

I used to have ME and it was unreliable about making restore points. Unless I made a manual point I may or may not had any for months.

With Vista they are created for almost everything. Good and bad but at least now I think I know how to deal with it.

Thanks for your input. I always value your advice.
