I tried using CCleaner as my system was running a little sluggish. I DID NOT touch the registry, just cleaned up temps, logs, etc. The etc was probably the killer. I must have missed something. Afterwards I had a major meltdown. I finally got it running in part. Can't play any decent games as they freeze shortly in, plus the video goes a little screwy, a little like safe mode. I tried system restore, Windows update, restored a backup (all this enabled me to get in as much as I have) but when I try a game and it freezes, all I can do is turn the power off. Sometimes when I turn it back on, there's a black screen with one line that goes through registry files and that's it. Then I have to power down again to get it up and running. I beta test games and need to get it working. I'm not sure if I should try reinstalling and see if it has a repair option, or just bite the bullet and start all over from scratch which I dread! Anyone have any ideas? Please!

Thanks RB 2009. I tried but unfortunately it says it's not compatible with Vista Ultimate 64.

OK, I've copied most of my vital data to an external hard drive. Had another crash and couldn't get back in (I'm in safe mode now). When I try to start the normal way I get the blue screen of death. The first time I got it it said something about a memory problem. Can anyone tell me what to check on that? I have 3+ gigs of ram and the swap file was set at system adjust. I just now manually changed it to another drive at 4000 with max at 10000 (system had is at 3869 which I assume was variable). I ran Belarc which identified the amount of ram. Would my system still do the same if some of the ram was bad? Would it still say I had it? I'm getting ready to reinstall the os but might wait a few to see if I get any responses.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

This is just getting worse and worse. It all started while playing a game and it locked up mid game and the video went funny (grainy) at the same time. Then it would make a clicking sound when booting up (like something turning off and then on again at the next click), and then the next symptom all the white areas would turn pink and it would lock up. First thought it was a memory issue, then maybe a video card issue, but that probably wouldn't crash the computer, would it? Any way while I'm typing this I'm getting blue specks through the white areas here and there. Anyone? I hate to reinstall and lose everything just to find out it's a hardware issue.
