Hi, I'm fairly new to vista and noticed that this symbol for the Sync Centre just appeared on the bottom right of my screen one day.
I'd like to know what the actual purpose off this is and if I can remove it?

As an FYI - Vista Sync Center is installed by default only on laptops as a mean to ease your connecting the mobile device to desktops. It is not meant to replace any third-party sync software.

XpUser,
I have Vista (Ultimate) on two (networked) PCs here & sync center is both on there by default - Am I missing something?

D'uh me!! I meant to say all Vista flavors has it but only the laptops have it running in the taskbar or loaded in the systray.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm not on a laptop it's a pc i'm using so how do I go about removing the symbol?

Sync Center is a component of Windows Mobility Center (WMC) in Vista.
Simultaneously press ΓΏ+M keys together to access WMC. Look for Sync Center menu button that should have the configurations to load or to unload it from startup. Let us know if it works.

I don't think you'd find the Windows Mobility Center applet on a desktop running Vista - so trying to access the Sync Center that way is pretty much botched from the get go.
Moreover that "Windows key + M" combination isn't one of the three different methods listed by M$ for invoking the Mobility Center even on a notebook. I won't bother going into that in detail because it is not really relevant here with the OP having a PC as opposed to a laptop.
Regarding the Sync Center notification docked within the taskbar, this suggestion might help disable that notification.

Oh the Offline Sync Center isn't what I thought it was - I searched throught my Vista Home Business for nothing - it's available only if you are running Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate.

I searched throught my Vista Home Business for nothing....
Do you mean Home Basic or Home Premium? AFAIK, there isn't a "Home Business" flavor for Vista ;-)

On my Dell D600 Laptop I did it like this (or something like this..)
Control Panel
Windows Mobile Device Center
End PartnershipGood luck and I'll let you know if it comes back after a reboot.
So long and thanks for all the fish [Quote from: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy]
