Comment:

Hello, I've been fighting my acer aspire 5160-
4537 for about 2 weeks now.

I have many friends that are very knowledgable
about computer systems, and have been able
to get lots of help.

Main Problem:
My computer will be connected to the internet,
but I am unable to use any browsers or
Windows Live Messanger- both say DNS error.

I use 2 programs that I have NO problem
connecting to the internet with, even while I
cannot connect using the messanger and my
browser.
They are-
Ventrillo
and
Pokerstars.

I've checked and doublechecked my internet
settings, dns settings, ipv4 and ipv6 settings..
I've used cmd and had some success:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Yesterday I used those commands, and
instantly I was able to get online with my
browser, ventrillo, windows msgr, and
pokerstars no problem.

everything was normal until my computer put
itself into sleep mode ( yes I was naughty and
did not have it plugged in, and didn't notice the
low battery)
Once it was up and running again, I was back
to having the same issues. Except this time
the commands I had used before to get it
working now do not work.

I have also done:
system restore
factory setting restore
restarted wireless router
restarted cable modem
changed to a different router
plugged directly into the router AND modem

I feel like I'm just missing something.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
-distraught.

Reply:

when happens again try

ipconfig /all

nslookup (web address)

then try repair from network icon and retry the above.

Make note of changes.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
