Hi,

I recently sent my laptop to ABS to repair it since video cam could not be found. They are calling me now 2 weeks after they received it saying that they pre-installed Windows and this was fixed and since it was not hardware problem they want me to pay them $200. Is this possible?

No hardware could be found for the cam when I first got the Vista. Whatever program I used it said "No hardware found", no problems in device manager, I had the right driver. I re-installed the Vista called them got the driver from them ...still the same thing not working, it didn't work on the XP I installed as well. And now they are saying it worked after they re-installed Vista?

Is it really possible that 3d re-installing will fix the problem? Or should I sue their ass?

Apart from that (I guess their configuration sucked) no game could play properly on it. It will either crash in 5-10 min or run in poor poor quality (ATI Mobility Radeaon HD 2600).

Any suggestions, advice, so on how to deal with this?

P.S. Do not buy ABS

IMHO I think the only thing you can do is just grin and bear it and pay up as the ultimate consequence of your past doings with the notebook, as noted below:

TBMK, system owners are normally supposed to send their equipment -- notebooks or even desktops -- to a repair facility, only, after consulting (technically) with the manufacturer's support rep or agent & much very so - at the agent's request.

Were you asked to send it in? By whom? And for what?

Yes I was contacted by their representative and after an hour of futile attmepts to make the webcam work... they requested that I send it to them, saying that if it is a driver or something like that they will charge me..I knew it wasn't since I had all the drivers even the ones the representatiev sent me and I had previously re-installed their Vista.

I do not know I just think it is unfair that they give me not working product and then they want to charge me after re-installing vista...I did taht and it didn't work. Next time I re-install my own vista ..what am I to do send it again so they can install their vista and make it work?
