Have two rare problems with Vista - rare, but they do happen.
Firstly, I have some programs that do not close - after they are closed the .exe process is still in Task Manager consuming memory. I right click to end them, but I get an "access denied" message. This usually happens after a program has crashed, but not always. I would have to restart to get rid of it.
Another thing that sometimes happens, and shouldn't on 2GB RAM, is I won't be able to right click! Sometimes it will even show just 2 menu items rather than a full menu, almost as if it hasn't got enough RAM to display a full menu! Worst case is I won't be able to right click at all. I will then end a task, like IE, which usually sits there on 150MB RAM usage, even when there's only like, 2 tabs open inside it, so I'm thinking, memory leak bug, but not sure if it's something wrong with my configuration. If I end the task then I'll be able to right click. A similar problem is I'll open, say, control panel, and the control panel window will fade in, but then fade out as soon as it's appeared. Again, when I end tasks the control panel would load successfully.
Like I say these don't happen all the time, but they do happen and when they do it's annoying!
Does anyone else experience this?
Cheers

I could personally relate to both of the issues you've described above, although I'm not quite sure about the frequency & severity of its occurrence since you have 2GB of RAM. I only have 768MB & I know the right-click issue can be a little agitating when it happens.
I would recommend a couple of things. Unfortunately, you are most likely not going to be able to confirm the fixes immediately, simply because you might not be able to recreate those issues on a whim. But they ought to work.
0. If your Temporary Internet Files folder is too low you could probably nudge that up a bit .... say to 60MB or a tad more, but don't go crazy wild on the increase.
1. The other thing you also want to do is pertains to desktop heap & that link pretty much walks you through what you have to do.
Mine for a while has been .... Windows SharedSection=1024,12288,512 .... & I haven't had the right-click anomaly since I implemented these fixes.
Good luck!

Lol,
Would just like to point out that since setting that registry option (i set mine to 8192) the right-click problem has not happened since!
Cheers
