I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 7520 laptop which comes with Vista Home Premium. However, it was pre-SP1 so I checked for updates using Windows Update, but no SP1 was found. I have since manually installed it using the large download, but I know that if SP1 isn't delivered on Windows Update, it's for a reason. Is there any way of finding out what this reason is, or are Microsoft still leaving us guessing? Since installing SP1 manually, although I've seen a vast improvement in general performance, I have noticed that it's taking Windows a very long time to shut down. I'm wondering if this is a side effect. Any ideas? Cheers

Hi Alex2002, I had exactly the same problem as you (see my post in this forum about Windows Update not working properly). The fact is that you will not be proposed to install VISTA SP1 unless you have already installed ALL the important and recommended updates that are proposed to you. After that, you will get a proposal for SP1. This is at least what happened in my case. Cheers - Claude B
