The easiest way to update your Windows Vista-based PC with SP1 is by using the Windows Update control panel. Just set Windows Update to automatically download important updates and Windows Update will download SP1 when it's available for your PC. (It could take a month or more before SP1 shows up on your PC, so please be patient.)

Note: I only added the bold tag to what was already there.

The article also states that you can download it as already stated.

I knew you could go to Microsoft and get it but I preferred not to be an early adapter. Since a month or so has passed I was just curious if they had started the automatic updates but just had not gotten to me yet or they were still working things out. Next week I might have a need for others to be on my system and I do not want them to be interrupted by an automatic update of SP1. If they have started the automatic update I probably would go and get it and hopefully be finished dealing with any problems by next week. If the automatic updates have not started rolling out I will assume there are major problems and leave things be.

I'm not a M$oftie nor a MVP but I do know there are problems deploying SP1. M$ excuses for not being able to offer SP1 to everybody who want it is outlined in the following article - with no fix in sight.

If you are still determined to install Vista SP1 no matter what, download & run Windows Vista System Update Readiness Tool known as CheckSUR from MS link HERE. Be aware that your copy of Vista must pass Windows Validation check.

Info regarding CheckSUR and what it does is given HERE.

Let us know if it helps.
