I am running Vista Business on an Acer Travelmate 8104 with 2.0GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, integrated RealTek audio. My sound functioned perfectly in Vista until this morning when I turned on the computer and there was zero audio. I booted into XP and the audio worked perfectly--definitely a software issue. When the problem first appeared, the Windows sounds still worked but everything else either did not work or had an error message. Upon reboot there was no audio at all.
Tried system restore, tried reinstalling AND upgrading drivers, tried MS and RealTek drivers to no avail. After uninstalling driver, upon reboot Vista attempts to reinstall and indicates failure. Have tried to delete .sys and .inf files related to the sound but Vista blocks my attempts to do so. I am even blocked from these files when I boot to the XP partition.
