I noticed a long time ago that sometimes
after my computer had been on for a long
time, that it wouldn't play any sounds. In
Windows media player, whenever I would try
to play a song, it'd give me the 'it can't
be played, you're on your own' message. So
I'd just restart, and that'd fix it. That
was then, where it'd happen about once a
week. But now, it's gotten to the point
where if I so much as leave the computer and
get a glass of ginger ale, I come back and
the sound doesn't work! I'm getting awfully
tired of constantly having to restart my
computer.

I'm using SoundMax.

I believe that's a chipset on the mother board. If you have the money, buy a sound card. It solved a similar problem for me.

It could be software related. Do you have integrated audio as implied above or a dedicated sound card?
