Try the realtek ac97 vista driver. I run an AMD onboard sound card & there's no driver listed for vista for it so I tried this one & it works fine

I installed the old harddrive back with Windows XP Pro 64 Bit version. The sound works in that one. But the sound will not work with the windows vista version which is the new harddrive connected to Sata Cable.
